A new slimline A Raspberry Pi 5 with an official Active Cooler or one placed in the official enclosure, complete with fan, is supported by HAT.
With a slimmed-down design that works well with the official Raspberry Pi Active Cooler, Waveshare, an expert in embedded and hobby electronics, has released a new version of its Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Hardware Attached on Top (HAT) accessory for the Raspberry Pi 5.
"The PoE HAT (H) is an IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant PoE (Power Over Ethernet) HAT for Raspberry Pi 5/CM [Compute Module] 5," the business said in reference to its most recent release. "By using with a PoE router or switch that supports the IEEE 802.3af/at network standard, it is possible to provide both network connection and power supply for your Raspberry Pi in only one Ethernet cable."
Naturally, that is nothing new: although the Raspberry Pi's exclusive design has not yet been revealed, a number of suitable PoE adapters, including those made by Waveshare and other third parties, have been made available for the Raspberry Pi 5. The company's new model has a revamped layout that makes the board significantly smaller, yet it still has all the functions of the original.
To differentiate it from the previous PoE HAT (F), CNX Software introduced us to the new model, which is called the PoE HAT (H). The C-shaped attaches via packaged pillars into the board's four mounting holes and fits on the 40-pin general-purpose input/output (GPIO) header of the Raspberry Pi 5. However, unlike the original, it lacks a cooling fan. Instead, it's made to hover over.
However, Waveshare claims that the PoE HAT (H) is compatible with the Raspberry Pi 5 Case as well. It does this by eliminating the need for mounting pillars and longer GPIO header pins and by connecting the HAT directly to the Raspberry Pi 5 on smaller pillars, even when using the case's optional cooling fan. In both scenarios, it offers a complete PoE implementation that complies with IEEE 802.3af/at. It can receive 38–57VDC through the Raspberry Pi 5's RJ45 socket and output 5VDC at up to 5A over the GPIO header.
The PoE HAT (H) is now available on the Waveshare store for $21.99, which includes the HAT, header extensions, screws, and short and long mounting pillars. For an additional $29.99, you can get a package with the official Raspberry Pi 5 Case.
